iPhone won't restore at all!?
I jailbroke my iPhone a while ago (stupid mistake) and I went to update it yesterday, and it's now pretty much bricked. All it shows is the image of a USB cord and the iTunes logo. When I try to restore it, I get error 1604. After scouring the web for a solution to error 1604, I found that you have to put it into DFU mode and then restore it.
I tried this, but in DFU mode (I did it right, i can confirm) iTunes doesn't recognise that there's an iPhone connected. The advice I sought after this was to uninstall all Apple software on my Windows PC and reinstall iTunes. I did this and no avail.
I'm at my wits end, with no phone. Anyone know how to help me? I'm pretty desperate.
I definitely have already searched google. Many times over. Scouring forum after forum.
RULE FOR UPDATING:::
1) Restore to unjailbroken current firmware
2) Update
3) Then jailbreak (if needed to)
How to fix it:::
1) Number one thing to fix a bricked iPhone is to simply reset it
- Hold the home and power button for 10 - 15 seconds.

Edit: Go here (in your computer) youruser/library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates
and move the ipsw file to your desktop. (you may delete it but it is 270MB and it may take some time to download again. )
This is the directory where your iPod restores it from. this is the file that it restores the iPod to.
Also, try using the USB ports at the back of the computer. (i don't know why) but they are known to funtion better than USB ports at the front...
Also, don't lose hope about fixing your iPhone. there IS a way to fix it, but you just have to keeping searching and find it.
